Dating apps have quickly become some of the most popular ways to meet new people. But with so many options out there, it’s no wonder that many users end up feeling overwhelmed and suffer from the dating app burnout. If you’re struggling to keep up with the constant barrage of matches and messages, you’re not alone. The feeling of dread, constant swiping, not finding the matches, many matches disappearing – all add to the overwhelm. It can be incredibly frustrating to use dating apps, only to be ignored or have people ghost you. It’s easy to feel like you’re putting in all this effort for nothing.

Onlymyhealth spoke to Dr Chandni Tugnait, M.D. (Alternative Medicines), Psychotherapist, Founder & Director- Gateway of Healing to understand how people can avoid dating app burnout:

    Take a break from swiping

It can be easy to get caught up in the endless cycle of swiping left or right, but sometimes it’s necessary to take a step back. If you find yourself spending hours on your dating app without any results, it might be time for a break. Set some healthy boundaries and hop onto the app only when you have the energy and enthusiasm for it and are not under pressure.

    Be selective with your matches

There’s no need to respond to every single match you get. Be choosy and only message the people you’re interested in getting to know. It’s not about them liking you; do you even like them?

    Don’t take things too seriously

Remember that dating apps are meant to be fun, so don’t put too much pressure on yourself to find the perfect match. Some people take dating seriously which affects their personal and professional lives. So, just relax and enjoy the process.

    Set some ground rules

If you’re starting to feel burnt out from dating app use, it might be helpful to set some guidelines for yourself. For example, you could decide to only use your app for a certain amount of time each day, or you could resolve to only swipe right on a certain number of profiles.

    Keep your expectations in check

It’s important to remember that dating apps are not a magic cure-all for finding love. Just because someone uses a dating app does not mean that they are looking for a serious relationship. Some people may be just looking for a casual fling, so it is important to be aware of this before getting too invested in the conversation. Don’t get too disappointed if things don’t work out the way you’d hoped.

Some dating apps may give you more control over who you see and who can see you, while others may be more focused on casual dating or hook-ups. If you find yourself struggling with dating app burnout, don’t hesitate to reach out for help. With a little effort, you can get back on track and find the success you’re looking for.
