Do you think your grilfriend is taking a toll on your mental health? Here are 10 signs that show your girlfriend is a walking red flag and affecting your mental health. New Delhi: Relationship is a very beautiful journey of two people working together with efforts, love, and care for a forever kind of bond. However, at times it can become very toxic and one may feel trapped in a relationship with the other for many reasons. Have you ever felt that your girlfriend is too much in a relationship and shows signs of a toxic girlfriend? Discerning behaviour in a relationship is indispensable for sustaining emotional wellness and ensuring salubrious interactions. When elaborating on the indications of a toxic romantic partner, it is imperative to broach the subject with sensitivity that these manners can be extant in any gender and diverse type of relationship. Dr Chandni Tugnait a psychotherapist, Life Coach, Business Coach, Healer, Founder, and Director of Gateway of Healing shares with News9live ten signs that may suggest a girlfriend’s toxic behaviour.

    Signs of Toxic Girlfriend

    1. Excessive jealousy

While a small amount of jealousy is normal, excessive, or irrational jealousy can be a red flag. This might include being overly suspicious, accusing you of being unfaithful without reason or trying to isolate you from friends and family.

    2. Constant criticism

Constructive feedback is way too different from constant criticism. If a girlfriend frequently slams you, your actions, your friends, or your family, it can erode your self-esteem and create a negative environment.

    3. Controlling behaviour

This can manifest in dictating who you can see, what you can wear, how you spend your time, or even how you should think. It’s a form of manipulation that undermines your independence and self-worth.

    4. Lack of respect for boundaries

Disregarding your personal space, privacy, and boundaries is a serious concern. It could involve going through your personal belongings, demanding access to your phone or social media, or insisting on being together all the time.

    5. Gaslighting

A form of psychological manipulation where the person makes you doubt your feelings, thoughts, and sanity. For example, they might deny things they’ve said or done, or accuse you of being overly sensitive or irrational.

    6. Emotional blackmail

This includes threats, ultimatums, and guilt-tripping to control your actions or decisions. It is a way of manipulating you by playing on your emotions.

    7. Constant drama and conflict

A relationship where there is constant turmoil, arguments, and drama can be emotionally draining. If conflicts are frequent and resolution seems impossible, it might be a toxic situation.

    8. Lack of emotional support

In a healthy relationship, both partners support each other. If your girlfriend is unsupportive, dismissive of your feelings, or indifferent to your needs, it can feel isolating and hurtful.

    9. Unreliability

Consistently breaking promises, flaking on plans, or showing a lack of responsibility can indicate a lack of respect for you and the relationship.

    10. Physical or verbal abuse

Any form of abuse, be it physical, verbal, or emotional, is unequivocally toxic. This includes hitting, shoving, name-calling, and any other form of demeaning or violent behaviour.

Here are a few signs which declare your girlfriend as a red flag or toxic for your physical as well as mental health. If you or someone you cherish is experiencing these warning signs in a relationship, it is imperative to heed them. It is always advised to seek help either from friends or family or take professional help if in case the situation gets critical. No one should be forced to stay in a negative environment or toxic relationship and coming out honest about it can help save many lives.
